The Approach

Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy (EMDR): This extensively researched therapy technique uses eye movement to physically activate the part of your brain that processes trauma, in order to release the emotional grip is has on you. In just a few sessions, what feels deeply distressing now will seem like a faded memory, and you’ll finally be able to rise above what happened.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a problem-focused form of treatment acknowledging the interaction between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT is grounded in the belief that it is a person’s perception of events – rather than the events themselves – that determines how he or she will feel and act in response. With CBT, you will work to adjust the behaviors and thoughts that impact your emotional experience.

Mindfulness Therapy: Feeling shame about your anxiety only makes it worse! In Mindfulness Therapy, you’ll explore your feelings with non-judgmental curiosity, uncovering the roots of your anxiety and making connections between the different areas of your life. Mindfulness Therapy also encourages you to be more aware of your body, first through intentional exercises and then throughout your day.

A glimpse into my life…

I am a Christian, and my faith provides daily motivation and discipline. I am also half Palestinian and half Puerto Rican, so choosing a favorite food is impossible—I love it all! I fully understand Arabic, though I am not a fluent speaker, but I am fluent in Spanish. I am also a wife and a mom to three wonderful children who keep me constantly on my toes. I cherish seeing the world through their eyes. When I’m not with my kids, I enjoy hiking or drinking a cup of coffee with my husband on the porch. We are both prior military—once a Marine, always a Marine! Lately, I’ve also been experimenting with homemade matcha, and I’m still figuring out how that’s going!
